Although this is an old photo and my dad isn't in it, this shows my Grandpa Jesse on the far left (man I was named after) as well as my Grandpa Robinson (far back), the most influential mentor in my life.

Influences & Mentors:
When looking at all of the mentors throughout my life, I would have to say that my Grandpa Robinson is one of the most influential people within my life. No matter what day it was or the struggles that he was facing, he always had a smile on his face and continued to make others laugh. When I was younger, he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. As a child, all I knew was that this was a dangerous illness which was frankly very scary. However, my Grandpa didn't let this scare him. He went about his daily life like everything was okay and continued to remain the happy charismatic individual that he is. Due to the immense positivity and courage that he displayed, he is undoubtedly the most influential mentor within my life. Lastly, I'm more than happy to say that he was able to beat Cancer and continues to spread his joy and great sense of humor to others. |
After touring numerous colleges and weighing all of the positives and negatives, I knew that Ohio State was the choice for me. However, upon deciding this, I knew that it was a rather selective school to get into especially regarding the program that I am in. All of the other schools that I had applied to I knew I would have been accepted. Ohio State was different. However, despite the difficulties, I am so grateful to say that I was accepted into The Ohio State University and will be majoring in Interior Design. When I found out that I had this opportunity, I started jumping around and couldn't stop smiling. It just goes to show that all of those years of years of work finally payed off!

This artifact is a tangible picture frame with an emerald green birthstone hanging from the right corner with a picture of me and my Grandma in it. The emerald reminds me not only of my birthstone but my Grandma's Irish heritage and of her favorite color; green. Since my Grandma died when I was younger, I have a hard time remembering who she was. This is very upsetting, but all I know, is I want to make her proud. So, it is nice to have a visual reminder of her that I can look at everyday. With this in mind, I have the frame sitting right on top of my dresser. This helps to give me a daily reminder of my loving grandma so I will never forget her and can continue to keep her in the back of my mind when making decisions. I have to say, due to seeing her picture, I often reflect on my days to determine if I would have made her proud. This has definitely helped me to evaluate my actions and stay a well rounded individual.

As a gymnast, I have faced numerous obstacles regarding fear. When I first started gymnastics, I was a pretty shy little girl. In all reality, I did not even want to compete. I only wanted to take classes. However, due to the talent that my coaches saw within me, they practically forced me to compete. Now, 16 years later I couldn't be happier. The image to the left is of a medal I received at my very first National Competition in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. To me, it shows my growth as a shy gymnast who was against competing, to one who became confident with herself as an athlete and actually became competitive enough to place at the National Level!
